Vein Care - Find Relief For Your Varicose Veins

Jul 24

Your veins work hard to transport blood from your organs to your heart. But sometimes these tiny vessels can get swollen and stuck underneath your skin. They’re called varicose veins, and they look twisted, swollen and blue or purple in color. These swollen veins can be uncomfortable, and they may cause other health problems. They can also lead to dangerous blood clots, like deep vein thrombosis (DVT), which can be life-threatening. And they can bleed and develop open, weeping varicose ulcers on the skin.

If you have varicose veins, Center for Advanced Vein Care can help you find relief. Our vein experts will recommend the treatment that’s right for you, based on the symptoms you’re experiencing and your overall health. We also consider how serious your condition is and your lifestyle.

We offer a range of treatments to treat your varicose and spider veins. Our doctors are experts in minimally invasive procedures. They will numb the area where they are going to perform the procedure so you don’t feel any pain during treatment.

Most of our patients go home shortly after their treatments. The doctors will give you instructions about how to care for the treated area, and they will probably ask you to wear compression stockings. It’s important to walk around and stay active after these treatments, because keeping your legs elevated helps prevent blood clots. You should also avoid sun exposure to the treated area, because it can darken the areas where you’ve had injections.

Sclerotherapy

In sclerotherapy, your doctor will inject a liquid or foam solution directly into the damaged blood vessel. Using an ultrasound, they will pinpoint the affected vein and guide an exceptionally fine needle into your body. The injection will cause a pinprick sensation and maybe a slight burning feeling, but you shouldn’t experience any severe pain. Your provider will usually inject a few different veins during one treatment session.

This vein treatment is effective because it causes diseased veins to close and eventually disappear with substantial reduction in symptoms and improved appearance. As the diseased veins close, your body automatically reroutes your blood flow through healthy veins.

Other Varicose Vein Treatments

The most common treatments for varicose and spider veins are sclerotherapy, EVLT and VNS. These minimally invasive procedures are performed in our offices. They are often covered by insurance.

During sclerotherapy, a small vein is injected with a special chemical that causes the vein walls to seal. This treatment is effective for treating small varicose and spider veins, which are close to the surface of the skin. It is also a good choice for people who don’t want to be exposed to the heat of an endovenous laser ablation procedure, which can damage tissue and nerves. Your vein specialist will choose the best treatment option for you after a painless ultrasound exam of your legs in our office. This will determine the direction of your blood flow, evaluate valve function and the size of feeding veins under the skin too deep to see on examination and look for signs of a blood clot.
